What Acupuncture Treats

LiverMany people of all ages and from all walks of life come to acupuncture for help with a specific condition, sometimes after exhausting other forms of treatment first. Some seek acupuncture as their first choice of treatment. A growing number of people come to acupuncture as a form of preventative care.

While acupuncture is often associated with pain relief, the World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of physical problems including:

  • Digestive disorders: gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, diarrhea.
  • Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, recurrent chest infections.
  • Neurological and muscular disorders: headaches, facial tics, neck pain, sports injuries, tennis elbow, various forms of tendinitis, low back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis.
  • Urinary, menstrual and reproductive problems.
  • Addictions, including smoking.
  • Strengthening of the immune system.
  • Relief from chronic conditions.
  • Fatigue, decreased energy and vitality.
  • Personal growth, fuller sense of self and freedom from old patterns.
  • Allergies.
  • Jet Lag
  • Fertility
  • Facial Rejuvenation

SpleenRecently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviewed research showing that acupuncture is helpful with nausea, pain, asthma, addiction and stroke. Further, people who come to acupuncture have a diverse range of complaints including: anxiety, depression, arthritis, circulatory problems, high blood pressure, indeterminate aches and pains, migraines and skin conditions. Extensive practice and research has shown acupuncture's effectiveness in helping with these and many other conditions.

At Tracy Medical Arts, we have witnessed relief of symptoms that were not on the original list of the patients' complaints, since they had not thought that acupuncture could affect a change in these conditions. Some of these conditions were: inexplicable rash, eczema, fertility difficulties, irregular mensus, menopause, digestive disorders, sleep apnea, water retention, urinary tract disorders, and edema.
