Acupuncture Diagnosis and Treatment
The vital energy of the body, mind and spirit flows through specific pathways in a network similar to the circulatory system. A disturbance in the flow of energy in a pathway will cause imbalance and disease will result. Diagnosis in classical acupuncture means discovering the cause of the imbalance in the individual.
Disharmony in the flow of energy manifests in many ways. Diagnosis establishes which pathways will require adjustment so treatment can restore the pathways to their natural flow and allow healing to occur.
Treatment reestablishes this energy balance. This is done in two ways. One is the stimlation of specific acupuncture points using thin stainless steel or silver needles. The other is the application of warmth to the acupuncture point by burning an herb on the point. This is called moxibustion.
